Why Does Discord Keep Logging Me Out or Asking Me to Verify?
Why does Discord log me out or ask me to verify?
Discord's Help Center does not publish one list of reasons, but it documents several, and each has its own fix. According to its pages (read 3 October 2026), a password change or an account recovery signs you out everywhere, a Verification Required message follows certain activity, suspicious behaviour can put an account in Limited Access, and two-factor authentication asks for a code at sign-in.
With several accounts on one computer these messages are easy to mix up. Note which account a message belongs to before you click anything. This guide assumes accounts you own or are authorised to manage, and it covers causes and official recovery only.
Which message are you seeing?
| What you see | What Discord's pages say | Official next step |
|---|---|---|
| Signed out everywhere after a password change or an account recovery | Changing the password logs out all devices. Undoing an email change through the recovery link also logs the account out everywhere, requires a new password and removes the phone number and MFA devices | Sign in again; after a recovery, add the phone number and MFA back |
| Signed out after clearing browser data or resetting the desktop app | Chrome's Help says deleting cookies may sign you out of sites. Discord's Error Message Guide tells Windows users with a JavaScript error to delete both app data folders and reinstall | Sign in again with each account's password and two-factor method to hand |
| A QR login screen you did not start | Discord says never to approve a QR login you did not generate yourself | Cancel at once; if you approved one by mistake, change the password |
| Verification Required | A safety step. Joining many servers quickly, messaging many non-friends, posting faster than a person can, and using third-party clients or modifications are listed as reasons | Verify your email or phone, see the steps below |
| A red bar saying your access is limited | Limited Access: you cannot join new servers or start new direct messages, but you can message existing friends | Use the Regain Access Here button or the ticket form |
| New login location detected | No dedicated Help Center page found (read 3 October 2026) | Follow the message and make sure you can open the account's email |
| A code prompt you cannot answer | MFA can be a passkey or security key, an authenticator app or SMS, plus backup codes | Choose Verify with something else |
| A violation notice or suspension | The Warning System shows your standing and each violation | Open User Settings > My Account > Standing |
Why several accounts on one computer make this easier to run into
- One profile, one set of site data. Accounts that share a browser profile share its cookies, so one cleanup can sign all of them out. A separate profile for each account keeps the damage to one account; see separate browser profiles for Discord and what a browser profile is.
- One set of codes per account. Each account has its own authenticator entry, passkey and eight-digit backup codes. Discord's recovery page mentions a file named
discord_backup_codes.txt, and four accounts saved under that name are easy to confuse. Add the account name to every file. - Switching is not signing out. In the desktop switcher some preferences reset and drafts are not stored. That is documented behaviour, covered in using two Discord accounts on one computer.
- The verification page lists behaviour, not account counts. The reasons it gives are activity patterns. The Help Center pages read for this guide list no location or device rules, so nobody outside Discord can say which sign-in triggers a check. Keep each account in one place so unexpected sign-ins are easy to spot.
Step by step: getting back in
- Read the message and note which account it is for, by name or email address.
- Open the sign-in page yourself by typing
discord.com/login. Discord says its staff never contact users through the Discord app for support matters, and the recovery page for an email change always starts withhttps://discord.com/wasntme/. - If Discord wants your email verified, open User Settings > My Account and press the Resend Verification Email banner in the browser or desktop app. If nothing arrives, Discord suggests allowlisting
notifications@discord.com,support@discord.comandnoreply@discord.comand trying another device. Its support team cannot send verification emails by hand. - If Verification Required asks for a phone number, use a valid mobile number that is not already on a Discord account. Landline, VOIP and burner numbers are not accepted, and a recently used number needs a 24 to 48 hour wait.
- If you are asked for a code and cannot answer, choose Verify with something else, then Use a backup code or, if SMS was set up, Use a code sent to your phone.
- If you think someone else has the account, check your email first for a "Discord Email Address changed" message, reset the password, confirm MFA is on, remove unknown entries under Authorized Apps in User Settings, and report through
dis.gd/hackedaccount. - If access is limited or the account is suspended, use the Regain Access Here button, or open Standing and use the form linked from the violation notice.
What if it still fails?
- No access to the email. Discord's login troubleshooting page says its support team cannot change the email address on an account, so recovery runs through your email provider.
- No backup codes. Discord says it cannot remove MFA or issue new backup codes. Keep codes in a password manager, one entry per account.
- Support requests. Your Help Center login at
support.discord.comis separate from your Discord app account, so keep track of which email belongs to which, and describe what happened, when, and what you already tried. - A replacement account is not a fix. If an account is restricted or suspended, use the review route. Opening another account to get around it breaks Discord's rules, covered in what Discord's rules say about multiple accounts.
- Social media is not a recovery route. Discord's page on its X support account lists 2FA removal, lost account access, disabled and banned accounts, hacked accounts and phone verification issues among the things that account cannot help with, and points to
dis.gd/contactinstead. - Messages from "Discord staff". Discord warns that scammers pose as employees offering to appeal actions for you. Never share a password, token or code.
Where ADSSPEED fits
ADSSPEED is a desktop app for Windows and macOS that manages many browser profiles. Every profile keeps its own cookies, local data and browser settings, so clearing data or signing out in one profile does not touch the accounts in the others, and you can name and organise profiles so each account is easy to find. Profile data stays on your own computer.
It does not replace Discord's own checks and cannot recover an account for you; use the routes above for that. Use only accounts you own or are authorised to manage, and follow Discord's rules. ADSSPEED is not affiliated with Discord.
Frequently asked questions
Why does Discord keep logging me out?
Discord's Help Center does not publish one list of causes. It documents that a password change or an email-change recovery signs the account out on all devices, and Chrome's Help notes that deleting cookies may sign you out of sites. Resetting the desktop app also removes local data, so expect to sign in again.
What does 'new login location detected' mean on Discord?
Discord's Help Center has no dedicated page on that message (read 3 October 2026), so follow the instructions in the message itself and make sure you can open the account's email. Discord's login troubleshooting page says its support team cannot change an account's email address or tell you which address an account uses.
How do I log out of Discord on all devices?
Change the account's password. Discord's QR Code Login FAQ says this logs out all devices at once, and its Safety Center says it invalidates your current account token. If two-factor authentication is on, Discord's password page says you are asked for your code before the change.
How do I know if my Discord account was hacked, and what should I do?
Discord's page on compromised accounts does not list symptoms. It says to check your email first for a 'Discord Email Address changed' message, reset your password, make sure multi-factor authentication is on, review Authorized Apps in User Settings, and report through dis.gd/hackedaccount.
Why was my Discord account disabled for suspicious activity?
Discord's Help Center describes two related states. Limited Access follows suspicious account behaviour and blocks joining new servers and starting new direct messages. The Warning System covers rule violations, and a suspension can be reviewed under User Settings > My Account > Standing. Neither page lists every trigger.
What if Discord asks for a 2FA code I no longer have?
At the prompt choose 'Verify with something else', then use a backup code or, if SMS authentication was set up, a code sent to your phone. Discord says its support team cannot remove MFA or issue new backup codes, so keep each account's codes in a separate, clearly named place.
