Does Flickr Allow Multiple Accounts? What the Terms and Rules Say

By ADSSPEED Team · Published · Updated · 6 min read

Can you have more than one Flickr account?

The pages read for this guide set no number of accounts per person and do not forbid a second one. The Terms and Conditions of Use (date of last revision 24 July 2025, an agreement between you and SmugMug, the company the Terms name) contain no sentence about how many accounts one person may hold. The Help Center page Managing Multiple Flickr Accounts (updated 21 August 2025) goes the other way: it gives tips for people who hold several, such as a unique email address for each. So the rules concern how an account is used, and who is behind it.

The Terms do set conditions for every account. You must be 18 or older, the registration details must be complete and accurate, and you should keep your email addresses current because Flickr sends important notices there.

What do the Terms and the Help Center rules say?

TopicWhat the official pages sayPage
ResponsibilityYou are responsible for keeping passwords confidential, for restricting access to them and to your computer while you are logged in, and for everything done under your account. Tell Flickr immediately about unauthorised useTerms: Account Security
Acting for a companyIf you use Flickr on behalf of a company or other entity, you warrant that you are an authorised representativeTerms
ImpersonationContent that impersonates a person or entity, or misstates your affiliation with one, is prohibited. Impersonation is also on Flickr's zero-tolerance listTerms: Acceptable Use; The rules of Flickr
SpamExcessive faving or commenting, the same comment or FlickrMail pasted in mass quantities, mass group invites, irrelevant tags and link spamming. In most cases spamming accounts are terminated without noticeSpam on Flickr
Artificial activityAmong the API key behaviours the page says it will not allow are gaining followers, faves or views artificially and joining groups in mass quantitiesSpam on Flickr
AutomationScraping, data mining, robots or similar data gathering are barred. Flickr describes itself as a place to connect like a human, not a robotTerms: Restrictions; Spam on Flickr
Commercial activityOnly Pro members may use an account commercially. A Free account used that way is subject to suspensionFlickr Commercial Use Policy
Pro subscriptionEach subscription is personal to the individual Flickr user and cannot be transferred to another user unless the plan expressly allows itTerms: Subscription Plans
Checks and filtersFlickr may immediately suspend or terminate an account for trying to get round SafeSearch or geographic restrictions, or for hiding or interfering with reporting toolsTerms: Acceptable Use

What are the Free account limits, and how do they differ from Pro?

According to the Help Center (Free account limits and enforcement, updated 4 March 2026), the limits apply to all content whatever its privacy setting, including Private and Friends and Family items. Content over them risks suspension or deletion.

LimitFree accountFlickr Pro
Safety levelsSafe content onlyModerate and Restricted allowed
Commercial activityNot allowedAllowed within the Commercial Use Policy
Non-public photos and videosAt most 50Listed as a Pro benefit without that cap
Total uploadsAt most 1,000 itemsUnlimited storage

If an account is over a limit, the Help Center names two ways to comply: upgrade to Pro, or remove the non-compliant content and ask Trust & Safety to review. Note that a cancelled Pro subscription keeps its benefits until it expires and then reverts to a Free account, so check the limits before it does.

What happens when a rule is broken?

  • A notice first, usually. Flickr says it writes to your FlickrMail inbox and your login email with details and steps. It may also apply temporary limits, such as hiding the account from public view, switching off social functions or disabling video uploads.
  • Suspension. A suspended account's content is visible only to its owner, comments are hidden, new group submissions are blocked, and other members are not notified of activity. You can still upload Safe content, comment, fave and use FlickrMail.
  • Termination. Egregious violations can bring immediate termination, and so can repeated violations or refusing to fix content. If content on the zero-tolerance list is found, the account is terminated and Flickr does not return what was uploaded.
  • Discretion. The Terms let SmugMug end an account or refuse access to anyone at any time, with or without cause.
  • Inactivity. If SmugMug ends an account for inactivity, it says it will make reasonable efforts to warn you beforehand by email. The pages read state no time frame, and Flickr tells users to download what they want to keep.

How do you stay inside the rules with several accounts?

  1. Give each account its own purpose, its own email address and accurate registration details.
  2. Do not present an account as another person or organisation. For a business account, Flickr says to put the brand name in the real name field.
  3. Keep credentials private, because the Terms hold you responsible for activity under the account. Team setups are in the business guide.
  4. Do not automate sign-ups, faves, comments, follows or group joins.
  5. Do not use a Free account commercially, and remember each Pro subscription belongs to one Flickr user.
  6. Respect the Free limits, and use the routes Flickr names if you hit one.
  7. Keep every account's email reachable so inactivity notices and Trust & Safety messages arrive.
  8. Keep written authority for any account you run for someone else. Agencies can read the client account management guide for the general habits.

What if an account is suspended or terminated?

  1. Read the notice in FlickrMail and the login email. The violation types the Appeal Process page lists include non-Safe content in a Free account, commercial activity in a Free account, mismoderated content in a Pro account, collected content you do not own, and prohibited content. The page says the list is not exhaustive.
  2. Fix what the notice describes: upgrade to Pro or delete non-Safe or commercial content for the Free-account cases, and remove content you do not own or that is prohibited.
  3. Contact the Trust & Safety team through the Help Center's Contact Us form once the account is in compliance.
  4. If you think a warning arrived in error, ask Flickr to confirm the account's standing.
  5. Do not open a replacement account to carry on. The pages read describe no route for that, the Terms let SmugMug refuse access at any time, and photos cannot be moved between accounts directly.

Where ADSSPEED fits

ADSSPEED is a desktop app for Windows and macOS that manages many browser profiles. It helps keep accounts you are entitled to run organised: each profile holds its own cookies, local data and browser settings, and profiles can be opened, stopped and organised in bulk. It is not a way around any Flickr limit or rule, and it does not change how Flickr treats an account. Profile data stays on your own computer. Background is in what a browser profile is. ADSSPEED is not affiliated with Flickr.

Frequently asked questions

Can you have multiple Flickr accounts?

The Terms of Use read for this guide (last revised 24 July 2025) contain no sentence that limits accounts per person or bans a second one. The Help Center's Managing Multiple Flickr Accounts page gives tips for holding several. The rules instead target impersonation, spam, scraping, commercial use from Free accounts and content over the Free limits.

What do Flickr's terms of service say about accounts?

They say you must be 18 or older, that registration details must be complete and accurate, and that you must keep passwords private. You accept responsibility for all activity under your account and must tell Flickr at once about unauthorised use. SmugMug may end an account or refuse access at any time.

What are the Flickr free account limits?

According to the Help Center page updated 4 March 2026, Free accounts may post only Safe content, may not post commercial content, may not store more than 50 non-public photos or videos and may not upload over 1,000 items. The limits apply whatever the privacy setting. Pro lifts them.

Why is my Flickr account suspended?

The Help Center says an account may be suspended when it holds content that breaks the Terms or Community Guidelines, including Free account limits, commercial activity from a Free account, mismoderated content, content you do not own, or prohibited content. You are told through FlickrMail and the login email, and Trust and Safety reviews the fix.

Can Flickr ban or delete my account?

Yes. The Help Center says egregious violations may bring immediate termination, repeat violations or refusing to fix content may too, and spam accounts are in most cases terminated without notice. The Terms also let SmugMug end an account or refuse access at any time. Use the appeal route and do not open a replacement account.

Does Flickr delete inactive accounts?

The Terms say that if SmugMug ends an account for inactivity it will make reasonable efforts to warn you in advance by email to the address on the account. The pages read give no time frame. Keep each account's email current and download anything you want to keep.
