Is It Against the Rules to Have Multiple Meetup Accounts? What Meetup's Terms and Policies Say

By ADSSPEED Team · Published · Updated · 6 min read

Is it against the rules to have more than one Meetup account?

The pages read for this guide do not say so. Meetup's Terms of Service (last updated 1 October 2026, read 3 October 2026) contain no sentence that allows or forbids holding more than one account, and the Help Center treats extra accounts as something that exists: they cannot be merged, and unused ones should be closed.

That is not a licence to do anything. Meetup's policies require profiles to be honest and authentic, prohibit accounts made to impersonate someone or to get around a block or ban, and reserve the right to suspend or remove any account at Meetup's sole discretion. Use only accounts you own or are authorised to manage, and follow Meetup's rules.

Behaviour Meetup names as prohibited

  • Impersonation and accounts that are not genuine. Both are prohibited, and the policy asks every member to be open about who they are, their intentions and their affiliations.
  • Getting around a block or ban. New accounts made for that purpose are prohibited. So is posting content or promoting events on behalf of a member who has been banned or blocked.
  • Inflating numbers. Creating accounts that join a group or RSVP to an event to inflate its participation is prohibited, and RSVPs that an organizer adds manually must reflect people who are actually expected to attend.
  • Dishonest ratings. Event ratings should reflect the member's real experience. The policy's example is a negative rating left only to harm someone's ratings.
  • Spam. Messages that are irrelevant, impersonal, unsolicited, promotional or repetitive count as spam. Among the organizer examples Meetup lists is creating groups, events or accounts to cross-promote other groups or events.
  • Tampering with groups. Changing a group's content or settings without the main organizer's permission is prohibited, and so is stepping up as organizer to change a group's focus, close it or post promotional content.
  • Scraping and interference. The Terms prohibit extracting data by automated software for a commercial purpose they do not permit, and activity that disrupts or overloads the platform.

How enforcement works

Meetup's moderation page says content and activity are checked by both automated systems and human review. Its Digital Services Act page adds that account review software and third-party tools are used to detect spam and fraud, that accounts and content flagged by them may be automatically blocked, and that reported items may be queued for its Trust & Safety team.

Under the Terms, Meetup may restrict or remove content, or modify, suspend or terminate an account, if it reasonably determines the Terms were violated, and it gives reasons where the law requires. The Digital Services Act page says that where Meetup has your electronic contact details, you receive a statement of reasons for restrictions that include suspension or termination of an account. Separately, an organizer can end your access to the part of the platform they moderate, at the organizer's sole discretion; a decision like that is what new accounts must not be used to get around.

A checklist for staying inside the rules

  1. If you do hold more than one account, write down what each is for and keep each profile truthful: a real person, with honest descriptions.
  2. Close accounts you no longer use. Meetup recommends it, and the guide to being logged in to two accounts shows how to check the email first.
  3. Never share a password. Give teammates their own accounts and a leadership role, as described in managing a Meetup group with a team.
  4. Do not use another account to join your own group, RSVP to your own events or rate them.
  5. Keep messages personal and relevant, and do not message people who are not in your groups to promote an event.
  6. If you need automation, use the API Meetup describes for Pro customers rather than scripts on the website. The API page says approval is not automatic for Pro subscribers, and that Meetup may deny or revoke licences that break its API terms.
  7. Keep each account's sign-in apart, for instance with what a browser profile is and a profile per account.

If you think a restriction is a mistake

  1. Read Meetup's message and keep any case ID it gives.
  2. Contact Meetup Support and ask for a review. The moderation page says this is the route if you believe a restriction was applied in error.
  3. Use the appeal routes in the Terms: email policy@meetup.com, or use the appeals link if you have a case ID.
  4. If you are in the European Union, the Digital Services Act page allows an appeal within six months of the decision or statement of reasons.
  5. Accept a final decision. The usage policy says members may appeal a suspension or termination but must respect Meetup's final decision, and the guide to logouts and disabled accounts covers the recovery steps.

Where ADSSPEED fits

ADSSPEED manages many browser profiles on Windows and macOS, each with its own cookies, local data and browser settings, which makes it a tidy way to keep accounts you manage organised on one computer. Profile data stays on your own computer. It does not widen what Meetup permits: honest profiles, no shared logins, no new accounts made to get around a block. Use only accounts you own or are authorised to manage, and follow Meetup's rules. ADSSPEED is not affiliated with Meetup.

Frequently asked questions

Can you have multiple Meetup accounts?

The Terms of Service read for this guide have no sentence on how many accounts a person may hold, and the Help Center treats a second account as possible, saying only that accounts cannot be merged. Meetup's policies still require honest, authentic profiles, and it reserves the right to suspend or remove any account at its sole discretion.

Does Meetup allow impersonation or accounts that are not genuine?

No. The Usage and content policies say Meetup profiles are meant to represent real people and must be honest and authentic, and that creating accounts that are not genuine, accounts with malicious intent or accounts meant to impersonate another person is prohibited.

Can I make a new Meetup account after a ban?

Not to get around it. The Usage and content policies prohibit creating new accounts to get around a block or ban decision from an organizer, a member or Meetup. They say members may appeal a Meetup suspension or termination, and must respect the final decision.

Can two people share one Meetup login?

The Terms say you alone are responsible for what happens if you fail to keep your password secure, such as by sharing your account credentials, and Meetup's password page says never to share your password. Teams use leadership roles instead, so each person keeps their own account.

Can I use bots or scripts on Meetup?

The Terms prohibit extracting data from the platform by automated software for a commercial purpose they do not permit, and interfering with the platform. Meetup says each web login uses a CAPTCHA to block automated bots, and describes an API that lets Pro customers automate workflows.

What happens if Meetup restricts my account?

The Terms say Meetup may restrict content or modify, suspend or terminate an account if it reasonably determines the Terms were violated, and will give reasons where the law requires. You can email policy@meetup.com, or use the appeals link if you have a case ID, and you can ask Support for a review.
