Viber Desktop Logged You Out or Won't Sync? Causes, Codes, PINs and Blocked Accounts
Why did Viber Desktop log me out?
Because Viber treats logging out of the desktop app and deactivating it as the same step. The Help Center (read 3 October 2026) says that if you forget the desktop screen-lock password, logging out deactivates the account on that computer and may cost you some data, and its desktop article tells you to deactivate after using a public computer.
The causes the Help Center documents fall into three groups: the computer was deactivated, the account behind it changed, or the app cannot connect. The table separates them.
Causes and what to do
| What you see | What the Help Center says | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| The app asks to be linked again | Deactivating the desktop logs you out. It can be done from the app (Settings, Privacy and security) or from the phone (Desktop and tablets) | Link the computer again with the QR code |
| Every device is signed out | Deactivating Viber on the primary device also deactivates the secondary devices and shuts the account down | Check the phone first, reactivate Viber there, then link the computer |
| You forgot the screen-lock password | Logging out is the way back in, and it deactivates the app on that computer | Log out, then link again; you may lose some data |
| No QR screen after installing, or no internet connection | The desktop app needs specific ports open for TCP and UDP and may need a firewall rule | Open ports 80, 443, 4244, 5242, 5243 and 7985, and allow Viber through the firewall |
| Chats or media look incomplete after linking | After reactivation the app can only sync data that is on the phone, and media received over 14 days earlier may be gone | Keep Viber on the phone up to date and tap Sync |
Codes, PINs and approvals: the checks Viber documents
The checks Viber's Help Center describes are all handled on your phone, not on the computer.
| Check | When it appears | Limits and recovery |
|---|---|---|
| QR approval | Linking a computer | Approve the activation on the phone. If the scanner fails, try the default Camera app or another QR app |
| Activation code | Setting up Viber on a phone or tablet | A code by SMS or phone call, in most regions a flash call whose caller number ends in the code. Three wrong entries mean a 24-hour wait, and VoIP numbers are not accepted |
| 2-step verification PIN | Setting up a new phone, reinstalling, changing the PIN, number or email, deactivating a desktop or tablet from the phone, deactivating the account | Five wrong PINs while setting up a new phone block activation for five days. The old phone keeps working but stops notifying you until the PIN is reset, and the desktop and tablet are not affected. When changing a setting, five wrong PINs mean a 24-hour block. Forgot PIN sends a reset email |
| Registration attempt limit | Too many activation attempts | Viber says the limit exists to stop spammers; wait 24 hours |
The email address you gave when setting the PIN is the way back in, so keep it current. If you forget the PIN and cannot reach that address, the Help Center warns that you may be locked out of the account.
If activation fails or the account is blocked
- Activation failed. Viber's activation page says this means it has temporarily restricted the phone number, which it says usually happens when its system detects activity that looks like spam. A recycled number that was flagged before can cause it too. If you think it is a mistake, contact Viber.
- Blocked for spam. The spam article says a suspected spammer's account cannot send messages but still receives them. It describes most first-time blocks as temporary and cleared after 24 hours, with a permanent block if the anti-spam system flags you again. Uninstalling or deactivating Viber on the phone does not unblock the account.
- What raises suspicion. Viber lists messages with suspicious links, numbers or addresses, messages to people who do not have you saved and who then block or report you, the same message sent to many people, and business messages to people who did not consent.
- Appealing. Viber's enforcement article says a notice should state the type of action and the general category of violation, and that you can appeal through the Contact Us request form. It also says users in the European Economic Area may have at least six months. Explain what was blocked and why you think the decision should be reviewed.
Several people on one computer: why the app signs you out
A Viber Desktop installation links to one account, so a second person has to deactivate the first account and link their own. On a shared or public computer the Help Center says to log out by deactivating, so no one else can reach the account.
Two settings help in the meantime. The screen lock takes a password of four or more characters, and Ctrl+L (Cmd+L on a Mac) locks the app until the password is entered. The Start up switch makes Viber launch in the background when you sign in to the computer and keep receiving notifications, so switch it off on a machine other people use. For the linking rules, see two Viber accounts on one computer.
Step by step: sign the desktop app out and link it again
- On the desktop, click your profile picture next to Search, then Settings, Privacy and security, Deactivate, and confirm with Deactivate again.
- If you no longer have the computer, open Viber on your phone, tap More, Settings, Account, Desktop and tablets, pick the computer and tap Deactivate. If 2-step verification is on, Viber asks for the PIN.
- Install or open Viber on the computer. On the phone, tap More, tap the QR icon, scan the code and approve the activation.
- Tap Sync on the phone, and expect only the data that exists on the phone to come back.
What if it still fails?
- Check that Viber on the phone is up to date and that both devices have a stable connection.
- Check the firewall. Viber's ports page describes an inbound rule named Rakuten Viber on Windows and an Allow incoming connections setting for the app on macOS.
- The desktop settings include a Use proxy server switch, and the Help Center links to a separate article on configuring it.
- The Help Center says uninstalling and reinstalling can resolve app problems, after you deactivate. Reinstalling restores only what is on the phone.
- When you contact Viber, it may ask for the app version, shown at the bottom of the menu under your profile picture.
Where ADSSPEED fits
The checks in this guide run on your phone number, activation codes and PIN, so a browser tool does not change them and ADSSPEED does not touch Viber Desktop. ADSSPEED is a desktop app for Windows and macOS that manages many browser profiles. It helps with the web side of Viber work, such as an agency's sign-ins for several advertisers, because each profile keeps its own cookies, local data and browser settings and profile data stays on your own computer. Use it only with accounts you own or are authorised to manage, and follow Viber's rules. ADSSPEED is not affiliated with Viber.
Frequently asked questions
How do I log out of Viber on my computer?
On Viber Desktop, logging out means deactivating. Click your profile picture next to Search, then Settings, Privacy and security, Deactivate, and confirm. You can also deactivate the computer from your phone under More, Settings, Account, Desktop and tablets.
Why is Viber Desktop not syncing with my phone?
The set-up page asks for the latest Viber on the phone and a stable connection on both devices, and the last step is tapping Sync on the phone after the QR scan. If no QR screen appears, the ports Viber lists may be blocked by a firewall.
Why does Viber Desktop say there is no internet connection?
Viber says the desktop app needs ports 80, 443, 4244, 5242, 5243 and 7985 open for TCP and UDP and may need a firewall rule for the app. The desktop settings also include a Use proxy server switch.
My Viber account is blocked. How do I unblock it?
For spam-related blocks, the Help Center says most first-time blocks are temporary and clear automatically after 24 hours, while a repeat can become permanent. Uninstalling or deactivating Viber does not unblock the account; contact Viber if you think the block is a mistake.
How do I reset a forgotten Viber PIN?
Tap Forgot PIN when Viber asks for it, and Viber sends a reset email to the address you gave when you set up 2-step verification. If you cannot reach that email you may be locked out, and five wrong PINs can block activation or changes for a time.
What can I do if I never got the Viber activation code?
Check your connection and SMS settings, turn on data roaming if you are abroad, and tap Activate via call. Viber limits activation attempts, so after three wrong codes or too many attempts you may need to wait 24 hours.
