Shared Wattpad Accounts for Co-Writers and Teams: What Wattpad Supports and What It Does Not
Can several people or a team share one Wattpad account?
Wattpad does not stop you, but it builds nothing for it either. According to Wattpad's Help Center (read 3 October 2026), it has no feature that lets more than one person collaborate on the same story, some Wattpadders share an account in order to collaborate, and shared accounts are not blocked but cannot be supported the way normal accounts are. None of the Help Center pages read describes team roles, permissions, delegated access or a business account type.
What Wattpad supports for teams, and what it does not
| Need | What Wattpad's pages say |
|---|---|
| Co-writing one story | Not supported: Wattpad calls itself currently unable to support co-writing |
| Shared account | Not blocked, but support is limited because the password and the linked email are the two pieces of security, and sharing both makes it hard for Wattpad to help |
| Roles, permissions, delegated access | Not described in the pages read |
| Business or brand use | The Terms and Community Standards say Wattpad is for personal and non-commercial use; the removals page lists using Wattpad for business purposes under spam or advertising |
| A verified badge | The program is not open to the public; Wattpad verifies only specific accounts where necessary |
| Posing as a brand | Not allowed: the Community Standards bar posing as Wattpad, its staff, public figures, brands or others |
| Members under 13 | Accounts run by someone under 13, joint accounts included, are permanently closed |
If you do share one: the ground rules Wattpad lists
The Shared accounts page offers six practices. In short:
- Work out exactly who knows the password and do not let it spread further.
- Agree with everyone before the password or the linked email is changed or reset.
- Keep the group to two or three people; the more who know both, the likelier a disagreement.
- Settle disagreements among yourselves first.
- Let one owner report a bug, because more Support requests do not mean faster help.
- Use the Wattpad Safety Portal for account-safety resources.
Two warnings sit under the list. If you contact Support about a dispute over the account, Wattpad says it will be forced to close it, with no chance of restoring it or its works. And for any account, access to the linked email is the most important thing: if you lose it, Wattpad says it cannot help you regain access.
Set-up choices that keep access recoverable
- Choose the linked email deliberately. Wattpad uses it for password resets, verification and notifications, and a reset email can only go to that address. Wattpad advises against a school address because it will stop working after graduation; the same reasoning applies to a mailbox owned by someone who may leave.
- Keep the password out of chats and shared notes. The current Terms say that sharing account information may let that person take control of the account, and that Wattpad disclaims liability for it.
- Decide who publishes before you post. Wattpad says a story cannot be transferred to another account.
- Back up outside Wattpad. Wattpad recommends saving original works outside the platform and says it will not restore or transfer story content after a policy closure. Its Download Your Personal Information tool (web, in Settings) offers HTML or JSON, but the page describes a summary of personal information and does not say it includes story text.
- Use a pen name if the aim is a shared writing name. Wattpad says you need not use your real name.
The four things that control a Wattpad account
| Item | What it does | What changing it needs (web) |
|---|---|---|
| Password | Logs you in, and is also required to change the username or email and to delete a story | The old password, or a reset email sent to the linked address |
| Linked email | Receives password resets, verification and notifications | The current password; the new address then has to be verified |
| Username | Identifies the account, is unique and is used to log in | The current password; once released, the old name can be taken by someone else |
| Display name | Shown on the profile only; not unique; cannot be used to log in | Edit Profile and the Full Name field |
Whoever holds the first two controls the account, which is why Wattpad treats the password and the linked email as one pair.
Off-boarding: when someone leaves the shared account
- Agree the change with the people who remain, as Wattpad advises for any password or email change.
- Change the password on the web: username menu, Settings, Change beside Password, then the old password and the new one twice, and Save. Wattpad asks for at least 10 characters, with a number, a special character and both lowercase and uppercase letters, and without the username or name.
- If the leaver's mailbox is the linked email, change it: username menu, Settings, change next to the email, the new address and the current password, Submit, then verify the new address.
- Wattpad says a password reset logs you out of all devices; its page does not say the same for a plain change. Use the reset route if you need every earlier session ended.
- Remove the leaver's browser profile or saved login from computers you control. Chrome Help warns that removing a profile erases its bookmarks, history, passwords and other settings from the computer, so copy anything you need first.
What if there is a dispute or access is lost?
Settle a dispute inside the group before anyone writes to Support, because Wattpad says a dispute brought to it closes the account. If the linked email is lost, Wattpad's page on lost email says it will ask security questions and that failing them means it cannot help. If you suspect someone else has taken control, the hacked-account page tells you to reset the password and, if that fails, send a Support request from the linked email with your last successful login date.
Where ADSSPEED fits
Wattpad has no team roles, so keeping access orderly falls on you. ADSSPEED is a desktop app for Windows and macOS that manages many browser profiles. Each profile keeps its own cookies, local data and browser settings, and profiles can be opened, stopped and organised in bulk, so accounts you own or are authorised to manage stay apart and clearly named. Profile data stays on your own computer. ADSSPEED does not change Wattpad's rules and is not affiliated with Wattpad.
Frequently asked questions
Can you have multiple accounts on Wattpad for a team or co-writers?
Wattpad's pages set no number, and its archived Terms encourage no more than one account. For co-writing, the Help Center says Wattpad has no feature allowing more than one person to collaborate on a story, and that shared accounts are not blocked but cannot be supported like normal accounts.
Can a shared account use a pen name on Wattpad?
Yes. Wattpad's Account privacy page says you do not need to use your real name and may choose an artistic pseudonym. The Terms still make the account holder responsible for all activity and say that sharing account information may let someone else take control of the account.
How do I recover a Wattpad account without email access?
Wattpad says access to the linked email is the most important thing for any account. A Support request leads to security questions, and if the answers are not valid Wattpad says it cannot help you regain access, so choose the linked mailbox with care.
Why is my Wattpad account suspended or banned?
Wattpad's removals page lists impersonation, spam or advertising, using Wattpad for business purposes and accounts run by someone under 13, joint accounts included. If you contact Support about a dispute over a shared account, Wattpad says it will be forced to close it, with no chance of restoring it.
