Why does WhatsApp Web keep logging me out?

Because a linked device depends on the phone behind it. According to WhatsApp's Help Center (read 3 October 2026), you must log in on the primary phone every 14 days to keep linked devices connected, and a handful of events end a session sooner. Each cause in the table below has a fix, and most of the fixes start on the phone.

What changes when several accounts share one computer

  • Each account has its own sign-in to look after. The 14-day clock runs for each account's primary phone. The pages read do not say how an idle second account on the same phone counts, so open every account on the phone now and then and check the list.
  • Keep one account in one browser profile. WhatsApp asks you to confirm an unrecognised device when you link one, so link each account from the browser profile and computer you will keep using, and recognise the entry in the list. The profiles guide shows how.
  • Clearing browser data may mean linking again. WhatsApp's connection page suggests clearing the browser cache and cookies and logging out and back in. If you end up on the QR code, link again from the phone.
  • Not every sign-out is an attack. Many causes in the table are phone-side events, not intrusions. A device you do not recognise in the list is the exception.

Step by step: you were signed out

If your phone holds two accounts, note that logging out of one switches the phone to the other account, according to WhatsApp's log-out page. Chats, groups and settings stay in place while you are logged out, but notifications pause until you log in again, and the 14-day window for linked devices keeps running.

  1. Open WhatsApp on the primary phone. If it asks you to log back in, follow the steps. You have 14 days after a log-out before linked devices drop.
  2. Open the linked-devices list: on Android tap More options (three vertical dots), then Linked devices. On iPhone use Settings, then Linked devices.
  3. If the browser is missing, open web.whatsapp.com and link it again by scanning the QR code. Confirm only a device that is yours.
  4. If a device is unfamiliar, tap it, then tap Log out.
  5. Turn on two-step verification (optional; on Android Settings, Account, Two-step verification). WhatsApp also says an email on the account lets you recover it without needing SMS or a phone call.

What if you cannot get back in?

  • This phone number can't use WhatsApp. The message offers a review. WhatsApp says most reviews finish within 24 hours, and that if no review option appears the ban is final and cannot be appealed.
  • Account locked due to inactivity. WhatsApp says to re-register your phone number as soon as possible.
  • Your account is restricted right now. WhatsApp says no action is needed. To see the time left, tap New Chat and choose a contact you have never chatted with.
  • Someone else is using the account. Tap Log back in, enter your number and the 6-digit code. WhatsApp says changing a password will not remove the other person; only re-registering does. If you do not know the two-step PIN, wait 7 days and try again. Try recovery before reporting the account, because WhatsApp says reporting a compromised account it is recovering might lead to a ban.
  • Never share the 6-digit registration code. Not with friends, family or colleagues.

Where ADSSPEED fits

WhatsApp ties sign-outs to events on the phone, which ADSSPEED cannot change. What it can do is keep your computer side tidy. ADSSPEED is a desktop app for Windows and macOS that manages many browser profiles. Each profile keeps its own cookies, local data and browser settings, so accounts you manage can stay signed in side by side, and signing one out does not sign the others out. Profiles can be opened, stopped and organised in bulk, and profile data stays on your own computer. ADSSPEED does not influence WhatsApp's checks, and it is not affiliated with WhatsApp.

Frequently asked questions

Why does WhatsApp Web keep logging me out?

The Help Center names these causes: the primary phone was not logged in to WhatsApp for 14 days, the account was removed or logged out on the phone, the number was re-registered, the account is restricted, an unofficial app was used, or a device was logged out from the linked-devices list. Check the phone first, then link the browser again.

Why is WhatsApp logged out automatically on linked devices?

WhatsApp says you need to log in on your primary phone every 14 days to keep linked devices connected. After you log out of the primary device, WhatsApp says linked devices such as WhatsApp Web or Desktop remain connected for 14 days. Open WhatsApp on the phone regularly.

Can someone else log into my WhatsApp account?

It can happen, and WhatsApp has a recovery page for accounts someone else has taken over. It says never to share your 6-digit registration code, that it notifies you when someone tries to register your number, and that re-registering your number logs out every other device. Review your linked devices and turn on two-step verification.

How to know if someone logged into your WhatsApp?

WhatsApp says to check your linked devices regularly: open the linked-devices list on the phone and look for any device you do not recognise. Its recovery page also says WhatsApp cannot provide information about who accessed your account or when and where it was accessed.

How do I log out of WhatsApp Web from all computers?

WhatsApp's unlink page describes logging out a linked device from the primary phone: open the linked-devices list, tap a device, then tap Log out, and repeat for each one. Re-registering your number logs out every device, but that is WhatsApp's recovery route for a compromised account, not a routine step.

Does WhatsApp Web keep logging out in Chrome?

WhatsApp's connection page suggests clearing the browser cache and cookies and logging out and back in. If you land on the QR code afterwards, link the browser again from the phone. If sign-outs repeat, check the phone-side causes: the 14-day rule, a device logged out from the list, or a number that was re-registered.
