How to Keep Several YouTube Accounts Apart on One PC with Chrome Profiles
Can a separate Chrome profile keep each YouTube account apart?
Yes, for sign-ins and saved data. Chrome Help (read 3 October 2026) says profiles let you keep bookmarks, history, passwords and other settings separate, and it names keeping different accounts, such as work and personal, apart as a use. Chromium's documentation describes each profile as a subfolder of the user data directory, holding data such as history, bookmarks and cookies. A YouTube sign-in made inside one profile therefore lives in that profile's folder.
What a profile does not do is turn one computer into several. It runs on the same machine and connection, and it is not a lock: Chrome Help warns that anyone with your device can switch to any other profile on it.
What does a profile separate, and what does it not?
| Item | Separate per profile? | Note |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube and Google sign-in | Yes | Cookies live in the profile's own folder |
| Bookmarks, history, saved passwords | Yes | Named on Chrome Help's profile page |
| Other browser settings | Yes | Same page |
| The computer and its network connection | No | Every profile runs on the same machine |
| Protection from people at your keyboard | No | Anyone with your device can switch profiles |
| Which channel you act as inside YouTube | Not a profile matter | Use Switch account; one channel at a time |
Other browsers have their own versions. Firefox offers Containers, which Mozilla's design page describes as persistent contexts that isolate sites, separating cookies, localStorage, IndexedDB and caches, with work and personal accounts side by side in one window as one of its own examples. Microsoft Edge and Firefox also have profile features with different menus, so follow each browser's current help page.
How do you set up one profile per account?
- Plan the names first. One line per account: brand, role, channel. For example
Acme - Studio - Main channel. - Open Chrome, select the profile icon at the top right, then choose Add Chrome profile.
- Choose a name, photo and color scheme. Give each brand its own color so you can tell the profiles apart at a glance.
- Decide about Chrome sign-in. Chrome Help says that if you sign in to Chrome with a Google Account, the profile name becomes the account name, and bookmarks, passwords and other settings can be saved to that account for use on your other devices. Think before signing a client's profile in to Chrome with a personal account.
- Sign in to YouTube inside the profile, using only that profile's Google Account.
- Repeat for each account. To move between profiles, select the profile icon and choose the one you want. Check the icon before you act.
- Test once. The five-minute test in what a browser profile is shows that two profiles keep their own sign-ins.
According to YouTube Help (read 3 October 2026), one Google Account can manage up to 100 channels. Its channels share one sign-in, so one profile per Google Account is enough. Use Switch account for the channels inside it.
How should you name, hand over and back up profiles?
| Practice | What to do | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Naming | Brand, role, channel, in that order; one color per brand | You spot the wrong profile before you click |
| Hand-over | Give the next person channel permissions on their own Google Account | YouTube Help calls channel permissions safer than sharing a password |
| Retiring a profile | Remove it only after the account has been handed over | Chrome Help says removal erases its bookmarks, history, passwords and other settings |
| Recovery details | Keep each account's recovery email and phone current | Google's account recovery steps rely on them |
| Backup codes | Print or download the 8-digit codes and store them securely | Google describes them on its 2-Step Verification page |
| Profile folders | If you copy one, treat the copy like a password | Chromium lists cookies among profile data |
Chromium's documentation gives the default location on Windows as %LOCALAPPDATA%\Google\Chrome\User Data and on macOS as ~/Library/Application Support/Google/Chrome, with each profile in a subfolder, often named Default. Knowing where the data lives is useful. A copy of a folder is no substitute for being able to sign in again.
What if YouTube misbehaves inside a profile?
- Check the profile icon. Are you in the profile you meant?
- Check the channel. The name and icon at the top right of youtube.com show which channel is active. Use Switch account if it is the wrong one.
- Sign out and sign in again. If the sign-in itself fails, see why YouTube keeps signing you out.
- Clear cookies and site data in that profile. YouTube Help gives the Chrome path: More, then Delete browsing data, choose a time range, tick Cookies and other site data, and select Delete data. You will need to sign in again afterwards.
- Compare with a fresh profile or a Guest window. Chrome Help says Guest mode deletes your browsing history, cookies and site data when you exit.
When do ordinary profiles stop being enough?
| Sign | What helps |
|---|---|
| The profile list no longer fits in a spreadsheet or in your head | Opening, stopping and organising profiles in bulk |
| Accounts need their own network settings | A proxy per profile; see proxy types explained |
| You are comparing incognito windows, VPNs and profiles | Antidetect browser vs VPN vs incognito |
None of these changes YouTube's rules, and none replaces each person's own Google Account.
Where ADSSPEED fits
ADSSPEED is a desktop app for Windows and macOS that manages many browser profiles in one place. Each profile keeps its own cookies, local data and browser settings, so the accounts you manage can stay signed in side by side without signing each other out. Profiles can be opened, stopped and organised in bulk, and a proxy can be set per profile and assigned to many profiles in bulk. Profile data stays on your own computer. Android phone profiles, each with its own device configuration, cover mobile apps on a PC. See how to install ADSSPEED on Windows. ADSSPEED is not affiliated with YouTube.
Frequently asked questions
What are Google Chrome profiles?
A Chrome profile is a separate set of browsing information. Chrome Help says profiles keep bookmarks, history, passwords and other settings apart, and Chromium's documentation describes each profile as its own subfolder of the user data directory, holding data such as history, bookmarks and cookies.
How do I use a separate Chrome profile for each YouTube account?
Open the profile menu at the top right of Chrome, choose Add Chrome profile, pick a name, photo and color, then sign in to YouTube only inside that profile with one Google Account. Repeat for each account, and use Switch account only for the channels of that Google Account.
Why is YouTube not working on my Chrome profile?
Check that you are in the profile you meant, then sign out and in again. If the problem stays, delete cookies and site data in that profile; Chrome Help warns this may sign you out of sites that remember you, and YouTube Help lists the steps.
Can other people using my computer open my Chrome profiles?
Yes. Chrome Help warns that if someone has your device, they can switch to any other Chrome profile on it. A profile organises data and is not a lock, so use operating-system accounts and disk protection when people must not see each other's data.
How do I manage multiple YouTube channels on one account?
Use Switch account on youtube.com, or studio.youtube.com, to pick the channel. YouTube Help says one Google Account can manage up to 100 channels but only one channel is active at a time, so one profile per Google Account is enough.
What happens when I delete a Chrome profile?
Chrome Help says that after you remove a profile, its bookmarks, history, passwords and other settings are erased from the computer. Before removing one, make sure you hold the account's recovery details and any backup codes.
