Why Does KakaoTalk Keep Logging Me Out or Asking to Verify? Causes and Official Fixes
Why does KakaoTalk keep logging me out or asking me to verify?
Because sign-in is checked on several layers, and each layer has its own trigger. Kakao's Help Center and Safety Guide (read on 3 October 2026) describe four: the same phone number or account being active on another device, the PC version's authentication from your phone, Kakao Account protection and country-based login rules, and automatic user protection measures inside KakaoTalk. The message you see tells you which layer is involved, and the table maps each one to its documented cause.
This page explains the causes and Kakao's official recovery steps. It does not describe ways around a check; a check that fires on your own account is best resolved through Kakao's tools, as below.
| What you see | Cause Kakao documents | Official next step |
|---|---|---|
| A message that the connection ended because your phone number is in use on another device | The number is active elsewhere; if you did not change devices, the email or password may be compromised | Verify the phone number, re-register, change the Kakao Account password, log in again |
| The PC version asks you to authenticate | PC registration is required for security, but only the first time a PC is used | Confirm it through the phone; up to 5 PCs per Kakao Account |
| A computer was signed out | A logout started from the phone; Kakao also says only one PC or Mac can be used at a time | On the phone: More > Settings > Privacy > Manage Devices |
| Extra verification at login, for example after travel | Login from a country not on your permitted list (up to 3), or from an environment that differs from usual | Approve the request in KakaoTalk or enter the code sent to the saved email |
| A notice that the account was protected | A suspicious login was blocked, a password leaked elsewhere, or the login came from an environment with frequent suspicious activity | Change the password, review current logins, turn on 2-step verification |
| PC version or other features unavailable | A user protection measure applied automatically | Wait for it to lift, appeal via Customer Service, try Talk Safety Pass if eligible |
| A login failure at the office | Workplace and public networks may block messenger programs | Ask the network administrator |
The four layers in detail
Layer 1: the same number is active on another device
An English Help Center page covers the message that the connection to the KakaoTalk server was terminated because your phone number is being used on another device. Kakao says that if you see it without having changed devices, the Kakao Account email address or password may have been compromised, and it asks you to verify the phone number, re-register in KakaoTalk, change the password and log in again, using a new and unique password.
Layer 2: the PC version and Manage Devices
The PC version asks for a registration that is needed only the first time a PC is used, and Kakao says up to 5 PCs can be registered per account. A Korean page adds that KakaoTalk can be used on only one PC or Mac at a time. The pages do not say which session ends when a second computer signs in, so check Manage Devices if a computer was signed out unexpectedly. Kakao also says an alert message reaches the phone when someone logs in to the PC version, which is how an unexpected login is noticed.
Layer 3: Kakao Account protection, locking and country rules
- Locking. When a login is attempted in KakaoTalk, Kakao sends a message about it. If you did not try to log in, locking the account protects it. While locked, you are logged out of every service that uses the account; resetting the password releases the lock.
- Protection. The Korean page lists three representative reasons: a suspicious login was blocked, a password used on another site leaked, or the login came from an environment where suspicious activity had happened often.
- Unusual environment. The Korean page for failed additional verification says a login from an environment different from usual may need extra verification. It tells you to try from the device and network (IP address, browser) you normally use, to register identity verification information or a contact email afterwards, and otherwise to wait for the time shown on screen and retry from that same environment.
- Country rules. Login restriction by country limits logins from countries you have not permitted; Kakao's pages say it is set automatically for safe use and can be turned off under Kakao Account settings. One main country is registered automatically, up to 3 can be permitted, and you can add a country on the verification screen when travelling. Outside the list you verify through a KakaoTalk message or an email code.
A Korean page about login locations adds that, on a mobile network or VPN, the region derived from the IP address may differ from where you actually logged in, because the IP location reflects the internet provider.
Layer 4: user protection measures
Kakao's anti-abuse system can apply protection measures automatically when it detects an unusual service environment or pattern. Both the Korean help page and the English Safety Guide list using KakaoTalk in abnormal environments such as computer system emulators among the triggers, and the Korean page lists the PC version and other sub-devices among the features that can be blocked. Existing chat rooms keep working, and Kakao says most measures lift automatically when nothing further unusual is detected. You can appeal at any time through Kakao Customer Service. Talk Safety Pass, for Kakao Certificate users with a +82 number, can relax a measure, but Kakao says it can be reapplied if abnormal environments or patterns are detected again.
If you think someone else is using your account
- On the phone, open More > Settings > Privacy > Manage Devices and log the PC out or deregister it.
- Change the Kakao Account password, choosing the option that logs you out of other services.
- Check the current login information on accounts.kakao.com and log out sessions you do not recognise.
- Turn on 2-step verification (More > Settings > Kakao Account > 2-Step Verification, or Account Security on accounts.kakao.com) and review login restriction by country.
- Report suspected hacking through Kakao's customer service request page, which the Help Center links to.
What if it still fails?
- You cannot use any extra verification method. Kakao's English pages tell you to contact Kakao customer support.
- You run several accounts you are authorised to manage. The page on failed additional verification points to the device and network you normally use. Keeping each account tied to its own device and browser profile fits that advice, but it does not mean a check will never appear. See separate browser profiles for Kakao accounts and, for location mismatches, timezone, language and IP consistency.
- A restriction stays on. Appeal through Customer Service rather than opening a replacement account; KakaoTalk's rules for multiple accounts explain why.
- Office or public network. An English page says firewalls at workplaces and public places may block messengers such as KakaoTalk.
Where ADSSPEED fits
ADSSPEED is a desktop app for Windows and macOS that manages many browser profiles. Each profile keeps its own cookies, local data and browser settings, so the Kakao web accounts you manage can stay signed in side by side without signing each other out, and a proxy can be set per profile. Profiles can be opened, stopped and organised in bulk, and profile data stays on your own computer. It does not remove Kakao's checks or change its rules. Use it only with accounts you own or are authorised to manage. ADSSPEED is not affiliated with KakaoTalk.
Frequently asked questions
Why did KakaoTalk log me out?
Kakao documents several causes: your phone number being used on another device, a remote logout from Manage Devices on the phone, only one PC or Mac being usable at a time, or a Kakao Account lock. If you did not change devices, Kakao says the account email or password may be compromised.
What does the KakaoTalk message about your phone number being used on another device mean?
An English Help Center page says that if you see it without having changed your device, the Kakao Account email address or password may have been compromised. Verify your phone number, re-register in KakaoTalk, change the Kakao Account password, then log in again.
How do I log out of KakaoTalk on a computer from my phone?
Kakao's Help Center says you can log a PC out remotely: on the phone go to More > Settings > Privacy > Manage Devices and tap Logout. The same screen lists your registered PCs and lets you deregister one.
Why does KakaoTalk ask for a verification code when I log in?
The PC version requires a one-time authentication on each computer, confirmed through your phone. Kakao Account logins can also ask for extra verification when they come from an unusual environment or from a country that is not on your login-permitted list.
KakaoTalk verification problem: what can I do if I cannot complete the extra verification?
Kakao's Korean help page suggests trying from the device and network, including IP and browser, that you normally use, then registering identity verification information or a contact email. If that is impossible, wait for the time shown on screen or contact Kakao customer support.
Can I appeal a KakaoTalk user protection measure?
Yes. Kakao's English pages say users can appeal user protection measures and service restrictions through Kakao Customer Service at any time, and that operators review the case. Talk Safety Pass can relax protection for Kakao Certificate users with a +82 number.
